The AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) is the first-ever comprehensive legal framework on AI worldwide, with the aim to foster trustworthy AI in Europe.
It lays down specific obligations for General-purpose AI (GPAI) models which can perform a wide range of tasks and are becoming the basis for many AI systems in the EU.
For this reason, the GPAI Code of Practice was drafted as a voluntary compliance tool which offers practical guidance to help providers comply with their obligations under the AI Act related to transparency, copyright, and safety & security, contributing to reducing administrative burden and fostering innovation while safeguarding fundamental rights and public trust.
Here at WLC, we have drafted a Briefing Paper, which may assist your organisation in understanding not only the measures of the Code upon providers, but also provide some guidance how they interact and complement each other.
This Briefing Paper summarises the key measures of the Code and places a special focus on General-Purpose AI models which present systemic risk, providing a breakdown of the requirements which are applicable to providers.
